Join us for the RENABUMA Ghana Co-Lab Workshop, a 3-week intensive international programme designed to spark collaboration, innovation, and sustainable design thinking. This unique exchange brings together students, researchers, and practitioners from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST, Ghana) and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT, Germany) to co-create ideas for a more resilient and circular built environment.
Over the course of the workshop, participants will:
-
🌱 Explore sustainability and circular construction – tackling the urgent need for environmentally responsible practices in architecture, urbanism, and construction.
-
🏗 Experiment with local and renewable materials – such as bamboo, clay, maize husk, and other indigenous resources, while assessing their potential for durable and scalable building solutions.
-
💡 Engage in design innovation – blending digital tools, prototyping, and community-driven approaches to address local and global challenges.
-
🔍 Combine research and practice – with lectures, field visits, and collaborative studio work that link theory with hands-on experimentation.
-
🤝 Build cross-cultural networks – fostering partnerships between Ghanaian and German participants that continue beyond the workshop.
The workshop is not only a learning space, but also a living laboratory, where new knowledge emerges from real encounters with communities, materials, and place. Whether in Kumasi’s vibrant urban environment or through on-site material testing, participants will gain skills, insights, and partnerships that position them as future leaders in sustainable design and construction.
